raytchell @vtgcovergirl @roachsyardsale @davisds1976 @wrforrest @lydiadan1 @fernsnotions Ladies, do any of you have any ideas about this unusual brooch? It seems to be made of something similar to tin or aluminum as I can easily bend it with my hands. I’m thinking it may have been made around WWII but I am seriously clueless. Any ideas or information would be awesome! Thank you 💖

lydiadan1 @raytchell Ratchel. I do know. Pretty sure they call the closure a FRENCH. CLASP. That makes it old. I had a few and my Jeweler told me about that Unsure of material. If it’s super soft. Linda. Sorry 😐. It’s lovely. How are you .

lydiadan1 @raytchell can you tell me the signature. I can’t make it out. I can see if it’s in my vintage books. I have several very good books many show the signature mod designers

raytchell @lydiadan1 ART.NOV ART.NOM OR ART.NUT? I’m good, avoiding as much of the smoke and insanely nasty mosquitos 🦟 staying in and trying to finish up a thousand different projects I’ve started. How are you??? 💖

vtgcovergirl @lydiadan1 I completely missed the clasp part. I was trying to find out the maker if I could (with no results.) That’s a “c clasp”, and it definitely dates your piece.

raytchell @vtgcovergirl Right. That and the odd metal made me think of WWII time with the rationing of metals. It’s such an interesting piece I’ve never come across anything quite like it before. I also have a feeling it’s quite rare due to its extreme softness and flexibility. Seems many would have broken by now.

raytchell @lydiadan1 I’m basically right in the center of the NorCal fires. Today is the first day I have been able to smell burning structures. Day before yesterday it just smelled like burning turd. So nasty. I need to either move or get a vehicle soon. Roommate took off out of town again and just kinda left me here with the dogs. 🤷🏼‍♀️

wrforrest @raytchell @lydiadan1 Good morning ladies!! I too smell the fires burning its no longer just smoke smell. Altho the valley is very unhealthy air now.. Over 770,000 acres have burned and the complex fires are little containment.. Its in Yolo county next to us but not sure exactly where.. Fires on all sides of Sac.

jsmedical I think this is sterling silver without alloy, sterling silver is very soft by itself, back in those days all you had to do is melt down the silver pour into mold and then sell it once it cooled down. Alloy sterling silver was introduced after the war ( that is where they use other metals to strengthen the silver) hope this helps

raytchell @jsmedical very cool, I will have to test it then. Thank you 😊

jsmedical @raytchell the art not is not the maker, back in those days artist would make Art that were functional so they called them art nots, on the c part of the clasp should be numbers or symbols that would be the signature of the maker
